So, it has been a while since my last post. I always say I’m going to keep on top of it and so on, but honestly many other things take up my time. I haven’t forgotten though. This is something I want to keep up with. My Flickr post are few too, I know. Not that my blog is in any high demand, so I am not terribly worried I might add, but I’ll be around more often.

On Vimeo, my project of Afghanistan is now ready for the public. Check it out here. The only thing holding back the release before was the lack of bandwidth I had in Bagram, but now I’m home and I wanted to share this little something. Via Flickr, Vimeo, or this blog, let me know what you think.

I’m all packed. The last thing to get put away will be my laptop. It’s unclear at the moment how tomorrow will go. Today’s incident at the Entry Control Point might have changed how things will play out, or not. A nearly accurate reporting: Cheney Unhurt After Bombing in Afghanistan. I shouldn’t comment on the specifics or anything that the press hasn’t released yet, but the current stories are close enough. I’ll be home soon. This should be my last post before I get to Kyrgyzstan. It’s almost over. What an experience.

I had never heard of this movie when I picked it up about two weeks ago. I watched it. I loved it. I was lending it to someone else when they told me they thought it was nominated for an Oscar, but didn’t know which category. Well, I didn’t get around to finding out until today, a day after the presentation of the Academy Awards. It was nominated for Best Picture, Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, and Best Writing/Original Screenplay. It didn’t win Best Picture, The Departed took that Oscar. However, Alan Arkin did win best supporting actor, and the writer Michael Arndt won Best Screenplay. I haven’t seen The Departed, so I can’t really argue who I think should have won Best Picture, but I do strongly suggest this film to anyone who has not seen it yet.

Greg Kinnear (You’ve Got Mail & As Good As It Gets), Steve Carell (Over the Hedge & The 40 Year Old Virgin), and an adorable Abigail Breslin, just to name a few, make up a wonderful cast that will make you laugh/cry. In a nutshell it’s a road trip movie, but if you’ve yet to see it and would like to spoil it all, check out the synopsis and other reviews.

Favorite Scene: Do You Think There’s A Heaven?

Not much of a surprise, but I was intrigued by this films soundtrack. It’s primary comprised of songs by Devotchka, who is new to me, and a couple by Sufjan Stevens, who’s not so new to me. Sufjan Stevens is a great musician hands down, as for Devotchka, if you go to his page you can listen to his songs with the flash player. I suggest you start with “Til The End of Time” and “How It Ends.” I’m surprised how hypnotizing and addictive the sound of an accordion can be. Yeah, I just said that. Not to mention guitar melodies that are light and serene, whistling that will remind you of Kill Bill, cello and violin atmospheres that I’d be comfortable dying to, and tubas playing higher than their intended range . Let me know what you think.

What should I say in my first post of my first blog? Oh, the pressure is on. I’ll begin by redirecting you to my photos at flickr. If you are looking for more of my background at this stage of my blog, you are better off giving that a look. Most will probably know of me from Flickr anyhow, so if that’s you, stay tuned and check back frequently for updates. I’ve chosen a swell time to get this blog started seeing as I will soon be in and out of the loop so to speak. If otherwise my posts are spare, I’ll be doing my best to keep it interesting and current, I probably just don’t have anything worth sharing. This blog was my solution to not always having a photo to post to my photoblog, but being me, always having something to say. So here it is. Welcome!
